Description

That would be more comfortable and speed things up.

It works to run a Mumble server from Tails. Running a Mumble client from Tails is buggy but somehow works in some conditions…

We should continue investigating and practicing with it. As a start we don’t need to have a collective infrastructure and can validate whether Mumble is the right tool for us from Tails operating as a server.

sajolida, I think you’ve been experimenting a lot with this, so now that your scripts have been published, what’s the next step here?

This ticket had been suffering from the parenthood bug in Redmine.

Now that we are on Tails 2.0 the Mumble client in Tails works well, so indeed we can move on regarding this.

I think we should now decide whether we want to:

  • Move forward the self-hosting of ad-hoc Mumble servers, that’s Feature #9993 and then Feature #9853. My scripts haven’t been published yet and probably need quite more work to be in an acceptable shape. Any help is welcome, maybe rewriting would be simplier.
  • Host a Mumble server on Lizard with a shared password.

The script in https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/mumble-server has been reviewed by anonym and works well. So I think we should give up on the idea of hosting our own mumble server. As think that for “internal” purposes, the state of things is good enough.
