Greeter revamp: Decide a language icon

Description

We tried to reuse:

But on the “Welcome” screen those were quite high and we proposed to put the logo on top of the selection box and designed a variation on the Language Icon with only the Japanese characters. We need to make a final decision on which one to use.

I gave my opinion by email, copying here so you don’t have to dig mail archives to find it:

I prefer the second one, because it presents 2 types of writing, like a
choice, but I see that the format of the first one is better. So, no
strong opinion in either direction.

I find it very pretty in the corner ! But it might be more complicated to do.

(why doesn’t the ticket have the “greeter” category ? intentionnal or forgotten ?)

What I see on the attached screenshot should not be seriously harder to implement than the one on the blueprint. Maybe just as simple.

Gathering the opinions of BitingBird and intrigeri, I thought that I have solved that ticket with the latest updates to the screenshots:

But now I see that this has been added to the agenda for the January meeting. Does this needs further discussion? I’m personally in favor or moving on to implementation and see how it goes.

Your new propositions look great. I don’t think there is more to discuss, if somebody wants to add their opinion, they had all the time to give it here :)

It’s not obvious to me that flagging a ticket as “Discuss” is enough to expect all interested people to notice it, unless the topic is raised on one of our mailing-lists, or at the monthly meeting. So, generally I find it good that, even when a consensus was reached on Redmine between 2-3 people, the monthly meeting is used to turn it into a final decision. Of course, in some cases it’s too much overhead and bureaucracy, and can be skipped :)

During the January meeting:

  • We acknowledged the current design.
  • The Japanese character has been reversed and this needs to be fixed. This will be part of ticket Feature #8523.
