The validation session was done. We’re now waiting for the results. Especially the list of problems that were identified on the current blueprint.

Hey,

First here just the results of the paper testing session. No proposals, just problems.
After, you can find a the same results with the links to the UI proposal we did the workshop after.

language

A - https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-1st-screen.png

- a bit difficult to understand this keyboard/formats/timezone options

- on person do not see that it’s possible to remember the settings with the remember button
- difficult to understand that items on right depend on the selected item of left

A -> B
- difficult to have 2 so differents interfaces with the same kind of settings

B - https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-1st-screen-langsaved.png
- difficult to understand that it’s possible to change the settings from the English/English(us)/United States/09h03 (Eastern Time)

wizard

https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-guided-context.png

- hard to understand wich “case” does what, especialy between “public place” and “web café”

- affected options depending on case are not visible enaugh

- how to go from one screen to the previous one (no back buttun ?)

- buttons at the bottom (discover, quick setup, start) are useless

- at the top, breadcrumb not easy to understand
- people think that the wizard is just for first time user, so it’s a tool for non usuals situations too

general and advanded

https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-advanced-screen.png

- paradox of “advanced” and “quick”. quick means “simple” but it’s for the “advanced” users

- all options in Discover are not in Quick Setup (and vice versa) see [1] and [2]

- persistance : find a more explicit word. maybe this word is too strong (“it’s not possible to erase”, “stays for ever”)

- strange to have a configure button for persistence

- have something visble to know wich options are default if the user to not configure anything
- lot of screens

===

I know that this proposals can not become a concensus because the GNOME 3 human interface guidelines respect are more or less a blocker, but we will find maybe ideas to keep. The [indications] are related to :

language

A - https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-1st-screen.png

- a bit difficult to understand this keyboard/formats/timezone options [no implementation]

- on person do not see that it’s possible to remember the settings with the remember button [button on top of the section]
- difficult to understand that items on right depend on the selected item of left [“same background”]

A -> B
- difficult to have 2 so differents interfaces with the same kind of settings [more familiar accordeon UI]

- difficult to understand that it’s possible to change the settings from the English/English(us)/United States/09h03 (Eastern Time) [more familiar accordeon UI, visual indications of the selected options]

UI proposal here : https://mailman.boum.org/pipermail/tails-ux/attachments/20150114/49c708f3/attachment-0001.svg

- hard to understand wich “case” does what, especialy between “public place” and “web café” [introducting notion of computer ownership]

- affected options depending on case are not visible enaugh [options in blue]

- how to go from one screen to the previous one (no back buttun ?) [no implementation]

- buttons at the bottom (discover, quick setup, start) are useless [no more buttons]

- at the top, breadcrumb not easy to understand [no more breadcrumb]
- people think that the wizard is just for first time user, so it’s a tool for non usuals situations too [no implementation]

general and advanded

https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/greeter-advanced-screen.png

- paradox of “advanced” and “quick”. quick means “simple” but it’s for the “advanced” users [rewording : basic/advanced]

- all options in Discover are not in Quick Setup (and vice versa) see [1] and [2]

- persistance : find a more explicit word. maybe this word is too strong (“it’s not possible to erase”, “stays for ever”) [no implementation]

- strange to have a configure button for persistence [persitence configuration goes to a dedicated section]

- have something visble to know wich options are default if the user to not configure anything [icon on top of sections]
- lot of screens [merge “Advanced configuration” and “1st screen”]
