I implemented a first prototype. To launch it in a Debian Jessie environment (it works under Tails/Jessie):

git clone https://git-tails.immerda.ch/greeter
cd greeter
git checkout feature/7550-revamp-phase1-prototype
cd prototype
./greeter.py

That’s really pretty !

Basic:
- “Encrypted storage area” -> “encrypted persistence partition” (or we should change the name in all the docs, and I think the one we use currently is more explicit).

Advanced:

- “show passwords” -> “show password” (that’s supposed to be the same)

- remove the “Windows TM” and “Microsoft TM Windows ®”, since it’s not coherent and we don’t care (just remove the TM and ®).
- “HIde the serial numbers” -> “Hide the serial numbers” (just the i that should not be capital).

To avoid any other miscommunication, please send your comment on tails-ux. Part of what you said overlap other discussions there but I don’t want to split the debate onto two channels. But the rest is perfectly valid, thanks for that!

After taking into account feedback from experts, we got a new proposal at https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/greeter_revamp_UI/design_rationale_phase1/. This proposal now needs to be tested (Feature #8238) either with a new prototype or a clickable PDF (as proposed by spencerone).
