Description

When creating a POP3 account in Claws Mail outside of the wizard (e.g. if that’s the 2nd email account being created), one has to select a location to store the email locally. The default location is outside of ~/.claws-mail/, so it’s not persistent.

Found the cause and the fix for the problem. When you create a new inbox using Claws Mail (File -> Add mailbox) it asks you for a location input. You have to enter Persistent/[NAME] instead of just [NAME]. To copy your old files you have to copy the old folder into the Persistent volume and then create a new mailbox usign Clas Mail (when you enter the right location it will scan and detect the files).

The easiest is probably to add a line to the email persistence settings doc that makes it clear what to choose when Claws asks for a path. Calling this a low-priority doc issue, then.

The documentation fix that was proposed is too simplistic. Only doing what is described doesn’t work. The issue is more complex since you need to add a new mailbox, for sure, but also the configure the account to use it, possibly delete the default one, download the emails again, etc. Some users reported having troubles following it, and actually me too.

I’m not sure that providing documentation for that is the way to go.

I couldn’t find a way of changing the default mail directory from $HOME/Mail to $HOME/.claws-mail/Mail. But why not make the $HOME/Mail folder permanent as part of the Claws Mail persistent feature?

This seems to be the way to go. Not doable with current t-p-s, though.
