Bug #17553
tails-installer: insufficient doc to release
0%
Description
While trying to release tails-installer for 4.5~rc1, I’ve noticed a number of issues:
- no clear indication how to clone it
- a
master
which is supposed to be the basis for all the things… that’s lagging way behind - no access for me to push the upstream tag
- a failing
git fetch debian
because of the first point (nodebian
remote) - etc.
so I might be skipping the update of tails-installer
for the RC.
Tentatively assigning to @anonym as my consultant for this release.

Some more data to clarify:
- using the
https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-privacy-team/tails-installer
URL as myorigin
, since I haven’t found anything else that would be more obvious. master
there can be “git-described” as: tails-installer_5.0.7-7-g91610c0f (instead of something like 5.0.16…).

From Bug #17553, it seems one should guess that the tails-installer
repository one is supposed to work from is actually <https://git.tails.boum.org/liveusb-creator>?
I don’t really find that obvious, given even when one knows about it, checking leads to:
kibi@armor:~/work/clients/tails/release/release-checkout$ git grep git.tails.boum.org|grep liveusb
wiki/src/news/report_2013_09.mdwn: - [Rebranded](http://git.tails.boum.org/liveusb-creator/log/?h=feature/sdio)
wiki/src/news/report_2013_09.mdwn: dialog](http://git.tails.boum.org/liveusb-creator/log/?h=feature/confirmation_dialog)
wiki/src/news/report_2013_09.mdwn: size](http://git.tails.boum.org/liveusb-creator/log/?h=feature/list_device_name)
and even knowing that, I wouldn’t have understood that from wiki/src/contribute/release_process/tails-installer.mdwn
’s introductory paragraph.

Hint: let’s not put too much effort into this because most of it will go away soonish (Feature #7036).
I think it’s fine to skip this update for 4.5~rc1 (and even for 4.5).

This was my initial assessment for 4.5~rc1 (confirmed by anonym); will do that as well for 4.5 given your hint. Thanks.
