Description
A user reported that when booting in normal mode the greeter fails to start silently and in troubleshooting mode they are displayed the GDM error screen mentionning this GPU :
Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller 8086:0116 (rev. 9)
none of the workarounds we propose for Intel GPU is working, however it seems that this computer (dell inspiron n5110) comes with two GPU the other one being an AMD Radeon HD 6470M (subject to Bug #12482), so I asked the user to try radeon.modeset=0
this looks a lot like Bug #16875, I wonder if our custom error message is picking up the right GPU.

Indeed, I bet the Radeon GPU is used. Did the workaround you asked them to try work? If it did, I could document it.
I’ve filed Bug #17533 about the confusing “Error starting GDM” message.
