Please see the workarounds documented on Bug #17193. Note that the sole reason why we’ve been maintaining life-support for icons on the desktop so far was to give easier access to the launchers we ship by default in Tails. It’s mostly news to me that users have started using this functionality for other needs. That’s interesting, and I’m curious why :)
