Description

As far as I understood we’re against users adding others add-on to Tor Browser. I bet we’re against users manually updating included add-on as well because it doesn’t go through any audit.

We should add a FAQ entry about that if we agree on the previous point.

I think that the reasons stated in our “Should I update Tails using apt-get or Synaptic?” FAQ apply as-is here.

Yes, please.

According to Georg Koppen from TBB, automatic updates are only prevented for Torbutton and Tor Launcher. https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tbb-dev/2015-April/000258.html

So right now our browser might be checking for updates of Adblock Plus, HTTPS Everywhere, NoScript, and amnesia branding automatically every day. Unless we did something specific to prevent this in Tails.

Can you check whether automatic updates are performed by TBB in Tails?

We set this:

pref("extensions.update.enabled", false);

… but not sure what’s the exact effect in practice.

According to https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/how-to-turn-off-add-on-updates/ it makes Firefox “no longer check your add-ons for updates”. How surprinsing! :)

So I’ll mark this ticket for review again.
