Description

Using manual installation technique (UUI, GNOME Disks, Disk Utility) should be advertised only as a temporary step before installing Tails for real. Even without mentioning persistence, those devices won’t benefit from upgrades.

We propose to add a splash screen when booting Tails from a manually installed USB device that reuses the graphics of the assistant and proposes to go to the next step: use Tails Installer on a second USB stick.

Well, looking at the known issues, there are quite a few computers that won’t boot from USB stick installed from the installer.

  • Parent task deleted (Feature #8583)
  • Blueprint set to https://tails.boum.org/blueprint/bootstrapping

The people working on the bootstrapping process won’t be the one to do that work, so that can’t be a subtask of Feature #8583. I’m add this as a bonus for 2015 on the blueprint.

  • Status changed from Confirmed to Rejected

We now have a contract for Feature #15292 that will get rid of all intermediary Tails, so I’m rejecting this.
