Bug #8809
Give user a warning when a device get input/output errors
0%
Description
It seems like there is no warning when a device used in Tails (nor Debian) begins to collapse:
there are sometime warnings in /var/log/*log (“You should run fdisk”), but nothing appears to warn user that is time to backup and/or repair the filesystem.
I didn’t find anything in Debian about that.

We have quite often users with dying USB sticks on irc too, seems useful.

The ticket Feature #5856 seems to concern only Tails devices.
The request here is also about devices accessed within Tails.
I reopen the ticket as “New”, please feel free to close it I misunderstood.

OK, got it. Then, it’s something that’s very, very far from our core mission, and should instead be reported upstream (in GNOME + udisks, I guess). I don’t think we should track all such “how GNOME could be improved in ways that have nothing to do with privacy or anonymity” ideas on our bug tracker, hence closing.
