Perhaps my seeing the “Oh no!” screen in Jessie shares the same root cause as this problem, but I suspect that I should create a new ticket to track the “Oh no!” issue. I’ll create it after I have more information about the problem.

I have been able to consistently reproduce the “Oh no!” screen each time I try to start a Jessie build with kvm -m 4096 -cdrom /path/to/jessie.iso, and this fails on multiple systems. Of course, kvm is a wrapper around qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm in Sid. I could not reproduce the problem with a self-built Debian Live Jessie ISO, so the “Oh no” problem I’m seeing seems to be Tails-specific.

I’ll need the full output of journal -a, and the content of all files in /var/log/gdm3/ (if they still exist on Jessie).

I can’t reproduce this today, possibly “thanks” to Bug #9012. If this long freeze time comes back once Bug #9012 is fixed, then we’ll have a pretty good lead to research where this very bug comes from.
