Description

During the meeting of december 3rd 2014, we decided that we are not in favour of telling users to set an admin password at boot time to be able to lock their screen. Instead, we want to provide a prompt for the first screen lock of a session. This prompt should prompt the user for a password to be set, possibly a different than the admin password, and could also display a warning, telling the user that screen locking is not secure.

Possible ideas to achieve this:

1. use a different PAM config for the screensaver
2. turn the admin password into the root one, and use the user password’s as the locker’s one.

Another idea which has been raised was that for persistence users, we could actually persist a session locking password.

Intrigeri can give a hand on the PAM front, but don’t expect much. For the JS side of things, ask alan and anonym.

If no tech solutions are to be found, we should send this issue back to the UX drawing board.
