Both cdrdao and toc2cue are shipped in the cdrdao package. We should probably install it.

Should it not be reported as bug upstream? The brasero package should have this as dependency…

On the one hand, the brasero package description reads:

The following packages, if installed, will provide Brasero with added
 functionality:
  * cdrdao to burn combined data/audio CDs and for byte-to-byte copy
  * GStreamer backends to support more audio formats
  * vcdimager to create VCDs or SVCDs
  * libdvdcss2 to copy encrypted DVDs
  * tracker to search for video, audio, image and document files

brasero already suggests vcdimager, libdvdcss2, tracker. It seems to me that it would be more consistent if it already suggested cdrdao and the relevant gstreamer package(s).

On the other hand, installing brasero on stable also installs libbrasero-media3-1, that itself recommends cdrdao. APT installs recommends by default, so unless the user tries to be clever and disables APT::Install-Recommends at their own risks, then there’s actually no problem at all.

So, I say it’s our own problem, and not Debian’s one (where it’s tracked in https://bugs.debian.org/610399 already anyway).

Adding cdrdao to the packages we install seems easy, should I mark the ticket as such? I guess testing it requires to build, but if the reviewer builds it might be sufficient.

Indeed.

I just tried installing cdrdao to Tails (apt-get update && apt-get install cdrdao) to see if it works and it still fails to burn an audio CD. I get the following error message:

Checking session consistency (brasero_burn_check_session_consistency brasero-burn.c:1739)
Unsupported type of task operation

#8 Updated by BitingBird 2015-04-11 22:47:46

cdrdao was added to Brasero’s recommends (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=772567).

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1558038 says that installing “icedax” too helps. Would you try?

#9 Updated by mercedes508 2015-04-12 11:21:21

I tried installing icedax as well, it didn’t change anything unfortunately

What do you mean exactly with “burn an audio CD”? Unless you’re trying to copy an existing audio CD, please file a dedicated ticket, since this one is about byte-to-byte CD copy.

The next nightly built ISO from the experimental branch will have cdrdao installed. May you please try it and confirm it fixes byte-to-byte disc copy for you?

Unfortunately I’ll need specific hardware to test that and I won’t be able to do so before some times.

OK, let’s reassign to the RM then. We’ll see if he thinks it warrants a feature freeze exception, or if it should wait 3 more months.

So I’ve verified that I can use Brasero to burn data projects, but both for copy and auto projects it says that any DVD I try is unsupported. In the audio project case, do I need a CD-R(W)? Haven’t had one of those for years. Any way, since I can’t do a copy either, it seems something is off.

If someone else could test this, I guess I could merge it based on those results.

I could successfully byte-to-byte copy both an audio CD and a data CD (each time onto a blank CD-RW) from an ISO built from this branch.

Good enough for me. Merged! Thanks for testing!
