Alan, now that it’s been confirmed that we can actually ship some flavour of GNOME Shell, and it’s actually the case in current feature/jessie, I think it’s time to have this research and conversation. I’m not sure how best to organize it, so I’ll refrain from starting to add arguments here. Maybe a blueprint + discussion on tails-dev@?

The test suite and other bits of our code are being updated to match the move to GNOME Classic, so if we ever want to consider shipping anything else, now would be a good time to have this discussion.

Well, if you still think we should use the regular GNOME Shell (instead of GNOME Classic) by default, then we need to discuss it, and then please start gathering the information so that we can have this discussion. Otherwise, if you don’t care that much anymore (which your last comment makes me think might be the case), then let’s just close this ticket.

After testing current Tails Jessie I belive the chosen GNOME Classic is quite a good compromise between recent OS UX and what we currently have. I still belive regular GNOME shell would be a good choice in the future.

Things are changing so fast that it’s hard to predict, but I tend to agree.
Let’s reconsider this later, then.
