On Tails 1.1 RC1, it would be easier to add the shutdown options, in the menu “System”.

We designed our shutdown button as an applet in the top-right corner of
the screen to be quick to press using a mouse.
Do you think we could make the applet itself accessible in other ways?
Adding a “Shutdown” entry in the menus is definitely possible but I
would also like to know if it is possible to make the current applet
accessible.

Power Off and Reboot are available in Applications -> System -> Administration on Tails 1.1~rc1, so the same workaround as what we had in 1.0.1 is still present. Still, on the longer term, it would be good to make the shutdown applet fully accessible.

On Tails/Jessie the applet is accessible (and the same buttons now are in the system menu, as requested), so we should be good.
