Feature #7471
Display a warning notification if the new identity feature is used
0%
Description
If it is possible to detect that the new identity feature has been used (either the one from the browser or from Vidalia) then we could display a notification pointing to our warning about identities.
First we should quickly investigate how feasible this is…

We want to disable the option in Vidalia, so there is no point in making ad-hoc warning for it. As for the browser, we have documentation in progress (see Feature #7226) but you suggested to remove it from the warnings page and put it in torbrowser documentation.
So I’ll wait for you to make your mind before acting on that :)

If it is technically easier to display a warning than to disable the feature, then this might happen earlier and be a useful improvement meanwhile. And as we probably won’t put much energy into patching Vidalia anyway this might be the case for a while.

It’s way easier to hide this button in Vidalia (we’re already doing it for a few other GUI widgets, and have been shipping a patched Vidalia package ~forever) than to write software that’ll monitor identity changes and display a notification (no idea how/where we would hook that in).
So, I’m not convinced this ticket is realistic nor very useful.

That’s the technical expertise that was needed I think. So I’m rejected this ticket as a crazy idea :)
