The feature/6397-stop-relying-on-the-removable-bit branch has a recent syslinux backport and the needed bits to cope with changes in the packaging. That could be extracted in a branch that’s only about upgrading syslinux.

6.03-pre5 might be enough to fix Bug #7232, but for other purposes (e.g. Feature #7231) we need 6.03-pre18. The latter anyway brings tons of bugfixes.
