Could somebody clarify what we would like to have researched? What kind of services we would like to use, e.g, Flattr, Gittip or anything else? How they will be listed on our donation pages?

What services exist, what are their pros/cons, relevant criteria to choose, ways of getting the money out, conditions to join. Possibly more :)

I checked out Flattr a bit.

* Joining is free.
* Getting the money out: “When your revenue balance reaches €10 you can withdraw the money to PayPal or Skrill (Moneybookers).”
Paypal: we could wire the money to Zwiebelfreunde’s Paypal account
Skrill: I suppose that we’d need an account on Skrill to use this feature.
there is a fee for the transfer
* pro: widely used in Germany, and afaik Tails has a not so small userbase in Germany.
* there is a “charity” account, but we would not qualify imho
* as with all sorts of services like this, they are not liable, service is provided as is etc.
* swedish law applies for any disputes or claims.

Gittip:

* american company / US law
* not liable for anything obviously
* weekly payments.
* need a twitter or github account to sign in with.
* as far as i understand, a US based user can add a US bank account to get the money out, weekly and automatically. But they also use a 3rd party service to proceed these wire transfers: https://www.balancedpayments.com/ who haver their own terms of service https://www.balancedpayments.com/terms
* non-US payouts can be handled manually by the creator of Gittip afaiu: http://blog.gittip.com/post/30116848405/with-payouts-gittip-is-minimally-viable

As the blog post states, people who want their bank account connected need to verify their identity. I doubt this is even possible for us.

This sounds quite ok to me until now.

But:

* they say we must not “Disseminate obscene or unlawful material or information. Violate local, state, national or international law.”

-> this is too vague, I have no idea if we might fall under this exception if, say, we ship a certain tool or crypto method or something like that.

If it works for NGOs, then perhaps our usual fiscal sponsor in the US can do that.

So, Flattr seems to be the easiest option: no need to set up anything that we don’t already have. Bonus, there are two ikiwiki plugins that support Flattr:

IMO, the research part is now done => let’s switch to the parent ticket for the discussion.
