Description

At some point, we will definitely want to migrate to the new torsocks. Its author (David Goulet) wants to hear from you and make sure it works fine for us.

Note that this migration could also be the occasion to make our usage of tsocks, torsocks and torify consistent, and only use one of these (hint: the new torsocks allows setting a SOCKS user and password on the command-line, so likely we can drop some of our hacks for stream isolation, e.g. for the MUA).

As a preliminary testing, I found two issues with torsocks 2.x and a third one that is unclear with claws-mail that stalls for a while during startup (needs more investigation).

As I continue my tests, I’ll create a git repository with the correct configuration files (if any needed) and usage for each application Tails is using with torsocks. I’ll post it here once created! Stay tuned! :)

At this point in time, the 2.x version is still NOT upstream but currently in code review mode by the community. Once merged upstream, the Torproject bugtracker should be used to report anything but in the meantime, use my Github account (link above).
