Feature #6857
Have leaflets to present Tails
0%
Description
It would be great to have some flyer or booklet presenting Tails that could be handed out to people. Lots of the text can probably be taken from the website, but there is still work to organize it.
Exemple: a small leaflet, e.g. double-sided A5, that would give a few hints to explain to a non-technical audience why tools such as Tails are needed, summarize how Tails can help solving issues, and point to our website for installation / usage documentation
Sponsor deadline: April 6

Heya,
do you think that this could be done before the end of the month, in order to distribute this at a conference i won’t name here? I’d be glad to help.
#4 Updated by BitingBird 2014-04-04 14:48:14
Well, nobody volunteered yet. I’d be glad to review, but I won’t do the work in the incoming weeks.
Cheers!

Oh, sorry to hear that.
I would be glad to work out a first draft, but i would probably need a lot of review and feedback once this is done.

Can I look into this? Seems a shame for it to die off.

It’s great if you want to work on that, but this one is not dead, there are people thinking about it :)
Maybe finish Feature #8666 before working on this one, I think it’s quite a big work.

its more a flyer than a booklet, but attached is a rough proposal

Super cool! Did you do that muri? If so, then feel free to steal this ticket from ArgySan and continue the work.
I think it’s simple but very good.
I wonder whether could remove bits of text and make it more visual. I’m saying this for example, because it’s quite packed in English and so I’m afraid it won’t be possible fit translations to more verbose languages (and most are!).
To put this on the website we would also need the source (free software, you know) so everybody can modify it, translate it, etc.

are you referring to the second page or the first page also? i was planning on doing versions in the languages that are available on the website, than we can see if its a problem. maybe i can scrub some sentences
it would be great to have some input if there is some information that should be on the flyer that i have missed? or some additional graphic that should be part of the flyer?

yes, i’ll have to find out how to create a scribus source file with all the fonts / images included

oh, you were so right! i just tried with the german translation and hat to fiddle a lot and make font size and line spacing smaller…

I was referring to both pages actually. For example on the first page, the information in the purple rectangle is kind of duplicated in the rectangle with the green borders (or rephrased). Maybe the two things can be merged.
But I also understand that it’s good to reuse the content of the website directly because it’s less writing, editing, and translating.
We’ll probably rework in depth the homepage and about page while working on Feature #9814 but I can’t promise you when this will happen.
So I think that for the time being we should try to do something good enough with what we have on the website as you’ve been doing until now.
Maybe adding headings for the three main aspects: “Anonyous”, “Amnesiac”, and “Toolbox”?
Then regarding the second page. I wouldn’t bother trying to give that much information. Maybe put less detailed text overall and point to the website, or reuse the schematics on how Tor works, compact the list of tools, etc. These are just ideas and I don’t really know what will work best.

as soon as there are the ‘tails user profiles/personas’ it would maybe be great to list some of them at the second page

Hi muri can you please upload the original files so that we can build upon them?
I think it’s still a good idea to do this.

As personas are not about to arrive that soon, I propose that we stick to the proposal and elaborate this one first. We can improve it later on and create another version.

Consider adding short information on how to boot from Tails and how to find the documentation. See Bug #9906.

I’m sorry won’t have time to fit this in my technical writing job and suggest looking for someone else. Maybe BitingBird? spriver? Otherwise some collective and informal time at the summit.

We’re pretty close to make this happen, aren’t we? We could still add a small image like the ones in the installation assistant showing a laptop with a usb key. I’m supposed to create such an image for our homepage.
I’d still like to make the layout of this more sexy, would be nice to have this for the next congress..
Will reassign to muri afterwards.
