Description

In Tails 0.12.1, I manage to connect to a FTP server on the Internet (such as ftp.de.debian.org) neither with iceweasel nor with GNOME "Connect to server" feature.

At least the latter works properly to connect to a FTP server on the LAN by IP.

The 1259 Tor ticket has a workaround, with poor usability. 3290 should not have been closed IMO. Commented there. In any case, the problem remains.

Actually, I take that back, I was too impatient :). Works in 1.4.1 (with ftp.de.debian.org)

See the linked upstream tickets: that’s a fundamental design issue with FTP vs. Tor, and the expected user-visible outcome is that it sometimes works… and sometimes doesn’t.

That sounds like a problem if people use Tails for working on websites not reachable via FTPS or SSH. Seems to still persist nowadays.
