It might be useful to use zram in Tails. Zram has been in the staging tree since Linux 2.6.33, and was marked stable in Linux 3.14.

Also note that zswap (https://lwn.net/Articles/537422/) is part of mainline Linux since 3.11.

Thanks for your input. Actually, this is the parent ticket to cover the entire “zram in Tails” topic, and Feature #6177 is a child ticket that tracks the first step on this way, that is evaluating it, so those are not really duplicates.
