We must decide what alternative we want to push users to (mainly boils down to cryptkeeper/encfs and/or LUKS and/or cryptsetup 1.6’s TrueCrypt support and/or tc-play).

What about Scramdisk?
It supports Truecrypt containers, has binaries for Debian and other distros..and is under GPL.

Adding this in Tails will bolster the support for this app.

I’m not fond of adding another GUI (in addition to GNOME disk utility
and the broader integration of LUKS containers with GNOME) to manage
encrypted storage. I think that this would create user confusion and
make it harder to maintain our documentation.

Anyway: ScramDisk hasn’t seen a release since 2011, and is not in Debian.

We decided to go with cryptsetup: see the Replacing TrueCrypt with cryptsetup 1.6 + documentation thread tails-dev@. It could then be made nicer with Feature #6337.
