Hello, the development team which I lead needs to get some software running on Tails. However, we constantly run into problems with Time sync and the local firewall. To get through is Russian roulette, about 1 in 6 tries.

The worst is that the user has no control over the process. If the real progress of the operation was indicated (e.g. which servers and which ports are being tried now) and if user could abort the obviously bad/non-responsive connections and start others manually, the situation would be much improved.

The current situation is very bad. You only know that something is trying to connect somewhere, but no details, no expiration time and no chance of fixing / rerunning the op once it fails and expires.

Note that the proposed new design (Feature #5774 + blueprint) for time sync’ will obsolete most, if not all, of this ticket and its subtasks.
