Description

a user reported that Tails 4.4.1 and tails 4.5~rc1 fail to boot on a Dell XPS 9343 with the following error message :

"selected booting device failed. press any key to reboot"

the user also tried to boot the image proposed in https://lists.autistici.org/message/20200322.063225.4bf7980f.en.html without success.

This very Redmine issue is the only occurrence DuckDuckGo can find when I search this error message.
But “selected boot device failed” yields tons of results.
So I assume the OP mistyped what they saw on the screen.

I’ve seen people fixing that by setting USB device mode to “auto” (as opposed to “USB 3.0”) in the firmware config.

The OP says they’ve tried all possible BIOS settings combinations of Legacy/UEFI and Secure boot, so I don’t know what else we can do about it.
