Description

Translators have asked to have external emails be moderated in Tails-l10n@boum.org

We don’t receive many external valid emails, and we could add some of the most common senders, and moderate the rest.

Hi!

I agree with this proposal.
I was under the mistaken impression that we (more specifically, sajolida) had implemented this a few months ago already, just like we did for our other public mailing lists: more specifically, for other public mailing lists, we let email from subscribers go through, but everything else has to go through moderation.
This works well for our other public mailing lists and I’m not aware of anybody complaining.

I’m assigning to the person currently on Help Desk duty, since Help Desk is responsible to admin and moderate this mailing list.

I was already logged in the admin interface for tails-l10n today for something unrelated so I activated:

  • generic_nonmember_action: Hold

Talking about spam, 40% of the traffic on this list since the beginning of the year are notification from tails-ci@boum.org (“Build failed in Jenkins”). I don’t think that they belong on a public mailing list with 171 subscribers.

Some possible solutions were discussed on https://lists.autistici.org/message/20191120.130929.cae84505.en.html but no action was taken so far. I don’t want to wait undefinitely to reduce the noise on this mailing list so I also did:

  • discard_these_nonmembers: tails-ci@boum.org
  • forward_auto_discards: No

Feel free to revert.

Thank you. I understand this solves the problem this issue is about ⇒ closing.

I see. I’ve made the Translation Platform maintainers aware of this problem, and the action you’ve taken to address it, on Bug #17274#note-7.
