Description

From an idea of @moire at the last Fundraising team meeting.

I’ll let him correct or clarify the notes I could gather from our discussion.

Having such a hotline could be hopeful to:

  • Help more journalists to use Tails.
  • Help us target the help that we are providing towards people that we really care about.
  • Show funders that we are actively working on supporting important use cases for them.
  • Build more relationships with journalists and new organization.

It could be an alias to tails-bugs that makes it clear that the request came through the hotline.

I think this is an excellent idea. There could be some technical learning curve with TAILS and associated privacy/anonymity/security tools preventing or at least slowing adoption of TAILS by journalists. Also, have we considered appearing at any booths of journalism professional organizations? I would suggest these as ideal opportunities to engage personally with journalists. With proper advance correspondence (and personal connections), it might be possible for TAILS to have a booth or even conduct a breakout session to educate journalists about TAILS, and how to use connected tools safely and securely to correspond with sources and otherwise do their job. I’d also suggest that a robust integration of Mumble client & server into Tails would be a tool journalists would use.
