Description

As suggested by huertanix in Feature #15028.

We have very little data on whether “Tor Browser” and “Tor Browser (persistent)” work for people, so we might as well try to change it and see how it goes.

The code for that living in config/chroot_local-includes/usr/local/lib/add-GNOME-bookmarks.

We should also quickly check our doc for references and screenshots. At least /doc/anonymous_internet/Tor_Browser needs updating.

I’m realizing now that the hard part of this ticket might be to provide a migration path to our users. Otherwise what would happen to the ~/Persistent/Tor Browser that current users have?

  • Should we write migration code to rename it automatically?
  • Should we create a second folder name named ~/Persistent/Tor Downloads and let people move their files themselves?

Do we already have a budget line that could be used to work on that or should we wait until Feature #14544?

Well, it depends on whether we want to rename the directory or only the GTK bookmark: the title of the bookmark can be whatever we want (see e.g. the “Tor Browser (persistent)” one).

The GTK bookmark and the folder displayed in Nautilus should have the same name, otherwise it’s going to be even more messy for people.

I’ll stop working on this more myself before I know who will write the code…
