Description

See Bug #13206.

For example:

When I start Tails installed on NTFS
Then I see an error message about it in the Greeter
And the Login button is disabled
When I select my preferred language in the Greeter
Then the error message is localized (like the rest of the Greeter's UI)
And the Login button remains disabled

But Tails seems to work fine on NTFS (except Tails Installer), so another option would be to tell people about that when trying to clone their Tails. See Bug #13206#note-33.

This suggestion of mine did make sense to me 4-5 months ago, as a temporary stop gap measure, because we had no better plan for the foreseeable future. But now that we have a much better plan (Feature #15292) so I doubt it would be a good use of my time to work on this and then hopefully throw it away later this year… especially considering this would have to be volunteer work and I’m very busy elsewhere already. If I find spare time to spend in this area, I’d rather spend it on Feature #15292 and Feature #15281. What do you think?

See Bug #13206#note-22 where I’ve explained why we have no guarantee that such a Tails actually works correctly. I don’t think it’s a good idea to assume it works fine and pretend we can support this except in Tails Installer. If someone is going to spend dev time on this, I’d rather see us warn the user when they try to use that unsupported Tails stick and not merely when they try to run Tails Installer from it.

When triaging Bug #13206 yesterday I felt we needed a ticket for this dev idea that you had back then and I didn’t feel like discarding it without you (as Bug #13206 will likely be closed soon). But I totally agree :)
