Description

In Tails 3.x we had to ship /usr/share/live/config/xserver-xorg/intel.ids to force systems with various graphics adapters to use the “intel” video driver instead of the “modesetting” one because of Bug #12219. In theory https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98742 was fixed in Linux 4.12 or 4.13 so for Tails on Buster we should try dropping this special casing, call for testing, and see if it introduces any regression.

Rationale: the “intel” video driver is not the preferred one anymore, it’s less maintained and should ideally not be used.

Build successfully an iso. Let’s put this iso to an USB stick and give it a try.

Merged, thanks!

Next step: ask our community to test a nightly build on affected hardware, starting with a X201 (sajolida).

Now that 4.0~beta1 was released + a special call for using it in production was sent to Tails contributors: I’ll close this ticket if no regression is reported within a few weeks.
