Description

it is not possible to easily extract encrypted .7z folders it ends up in a error if you DO NOT manually select archive manager to open it

nether is it easily possible anymore to compress data with encryption you have to compress it select the archive that is created select to open it with archive manager manually then select to password protect it

how did this ui/intuitivity disaster get past q/c when it was fine previously?
we are talking 4 single actions to get a password protected archive when this was previously duable by a single mark&right click action not to mention the unability or more accurately shitshow to extract those pw protected archives

pardon my french

So, I could reproduce this issue in Tails 3.4:

- Create a password-protected .7z file with Tails Archive Manager.
- Double click on file

Error:

‘There was an error while extracting “file.7z”
“file.7z”: empty archive’

BUT: in the same Tails I can open the file, if:

- Create a password-protected .7z file with Tails Archive Manager.
- Right-click and Open with other Application / Archive Manager.

To create the file:

- Open Archive Manager / New Archive
- Select .7z extensions and you will be presented with ‘more options’
- Insert password
- Add files
- Save

So it looks like there is simply a wrong default application trying to open these files. Can we fix this, dear foundations team?

According to intrigeri: “Nautilus in Stretch gained the ability to extract archives itself on double-click. I’m not surprised it’s less full-featured than Archive Manager.”
