Feature #12442
Define a public process how to become a sponsor/partner
30%
Description
We will create a Sponsors page on the website. However, we need to define a process on how to become listed on that page.
As an example see https://www.debian.org/partners/2017/partners.en.html which seems to be a very good starting point.
It might be useful to discuss if we want to call people sponsors or partners, too.
Once this process has been defined, we will need to make this information publicly available.

We could also decide to link to our roadmap from such a page, as was proposed initially on https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/6972#note-2

After thinking about it a little bit, here’s my idea:
- people who want to become a sponsor or partner will contact the Tails fundraising team.
- we will send them back an email, with the information how to become a sponsor or partner.
I’ve made a draft for such an email:
Hi,
We are glad to see you interested in helping Tails!
There are several types of sponsoring and partnerships.
Sponsors
========
* Provide a unique substantial financial donation to Tails
* Provide ongoing substantial financial support to Tails such as a yearly donation
* Provide a substantial financial donation to assist Tails in the distribution of releases
* Organizations that provide grants to Tails
Development Partners
====================
* Provide hardware to Tails
* Provide room or equipment for use at conferences, Tails public hackfests etc.
To be listed as a sponsor or development partner on our sponsor page, at least one of the criteria above must be met.
You'll be listed on our sponsors page under the year for which receive your donation.
By "substantial" we mean at least $xxxx.
Smaller donations are also welcome, but we won't list your company or organization on our sponsors page.
Please tell us for how you'd like to help and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Cheers!

One thing I’m worried about is: what happens when somebody makes a donation in May? Should we list them only then on the current year? Or do we want to ask the people to choose if they want to be listed next year instead?

What I’d like to discuss at the next monthly meeting is simply to gather some general feedback on the proposal.

Two comments here:
- it’s not 100% clear that the relationship between these bullet points is an inclusive “or”; I see this is clarified later with “at least one of the criteria above must be met”; perhaps move this sentence before the list of criteria?
- I’m not sure what “in the distribution of releases” means, nor why it is important enough to be listed while other types of work are not.
> You’ll be listed on our sponsors page under the year for which receive your donation.
I would s/for which/during which/ to simplify (it’s not easy to find out what “for which” means in some cases, while “during which” is straightforward :)

Sure.

Let’s skip this sentence.

I answered on tails-fundraising. I wasn’t clear to me if you prefered comments here or on the mailing list.

- Type of work changed from Discuss to Communicate
Thanks for the valuable feedback. So indeed, we should make some information public in order to attract possible partners. By email some other information like the minimum amount will be sent. And over email we can instruct people to send us their logo, if they want to. I’m creating becoming_a_partner.mdwn and will ask for review and comments again soon.

The non public part of this process still needs to be acked over tails-fundraising.

I like it! My only comment is a wording one, that I shared on the parent ticket (as we have the same wording on the Partners page as on the “Become a partner” one).

Nitpicking: I would rephrase “You’ll be listed on our sponsors page under the year for which receive your donation” as “You’ll be listed on our sponsors page under the year during which receive your donation”, which sounds less ambiguous to me. Feel free to ignore :)

I think we can close this ticket. The process is clarified on partners/become.mdwn and I have created email templates in the fundraising repository to follow up with potential partners.
