Description

In Tails < 3.0 I could copy and paste text from vim by selecting it in vim and then double-clicking in X, for example in Tor Browser. In Tails 3.0~beta3 this doesn’t work anymore and I cannot get any text out of vim. I can still paste text into vim running from GNOME Terminal using Edit → Paste (but using double-click doesn’t work anymore).

This is fixed by installing the vim-gtk3 package which fixes the vim ←→ X integration when running vim from GNOME Terminal.

I’m completely aware that installing new things into Tails is a sensitive issue but I still want us to make an explicit decision about this as it would break my workflow quite a lot (granted I’m a very special user).

I think this works if you hold down shift while selecting the text in vim.

Indeed! When I select text while pressing Shift, the text is selected in white-on-black (instead of black-on-grey) and I can past it in GEdit with a double-click.

So this seems like a change in vim and vimers should learn their way around.

Thanks for the tip segfault!
