Apologies if these documentation issues should be unbundled into separate tickets.
No offense, but I think your familiarity with all this has desensitized the need for basic explanations at setup and some appropriate links.

1. This page: https://tails.boum.org/install/download/openpgp/index.en.html
step 3 reads “… download the Tails signing key and import it in your keyring” however, the first time reader is left wondering what you mean by a keyring. At LEAST put a link on the word so we don’t have to spend an hour sorting that out.

2. This Page: https://tails.boum.org/support/index.en.html was intended to provide support, yet chat is impossible by default. What is XMPP? not explained. Try to connect to the conference.riseup.net server, get an error. Oh, last note is it needs to be connected by TLS/SSL. Yeah, explain how? I used those protocols for email not chat. Explanations? Links? I’m sure in another hour of research I’ll have sorted what you mean, but really, REALLY? Obfuscating help is not going to save the world.

Hi, thanks for getting back to us about these issues. We get relatively little feedback on problems that user experience on our website and that is very useful.

1. Regarding the “keyring” thing. This page is not advertised very visibly and the first sentence on it clarifies that it is meant for “people who are already familiar with basic usage of OpenPGP”. I expected them to know what a keyring is. It’s neither possible, neither desirable to explain everything to everybody and it’s always a question of knowing who you are writing for and which information they need (and which information they don’t need). So to understand better your problem, are you familiar with OpenPGP"? or did you land on this page by mistake? Maybe what we need is to clarify what OpenPGP is.

2. Regaring the “XMPP” thing, we’re aware of this issue already and have a ticket about it: Feature #11515.

The user did not provide any new information since 7 months.

I agree that the OpenPGP download page is not what we advertise to users in order to install Tails. This page really is only for power users who know what OpenPGP is. I think people might end up on this page coming from a search engine, so I propose this: https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/13184

And the XMPP issue is already covered.

So I am closing this ticket.
