Bug #11456
Tails in VirtualBox 4.3.x is 800x600
0%
Description
Tails in VirtualBox is smaller than I remember. I believe the right size is 1024x768 or something like that. I had the same problem with VMWare like a year ago (Bug #7595) so I switched to VirtualBox and I think it worked right for a while. I’m using Tails 2.3. I can enlarge the VirtualBox window but isn’t it supposed to be for anonymity purposes that we all have the same size screen in tails? I don’t want to create a uniqueness factor.

That’s typically the case when the VM is not configured exactly like https://tails.boum.org/doc/advanced_topics/virtualization/virtualbox/ suggests. It might be that you also need to enable 2D/3D acceleration for the VM.

Thanks but I was unable to get it to show the bigger size by default. I created a new profile for Tails using the directions and there was no change. I also tried increasing video memory to the maximum and there was no change. I also tried enabling 3d acceleration (it wouldn’t let me enable 2d) and there was no change.
I guess this isn’t very important because I’ve noticed that after tails loads if I maximize the VirtualBox screen for Tails in the host it works fine. The browser seems to show up at the right common size and not maximized.

Thanks for trying! In particular, can you confirm that you created a 32-bit VM?

Yeah I did what it said in the instructions, Linux Other 32-bit.

So I have no clue what’s going on, and I’ll leave it to frontdesk to handle it since they may have more experience than me with such problems.

Could you please report with WhisperBack from the instance, so we can see in the log what is going on, which error has, etc?
(Please add the ticket number to the report)

Sorry no. I am no longer using VirtualBox 4. I switched to VB 5 and tried a bunch of different resolutions. You can see the results at https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/10077#note-6

Hm, no additional info was provided and nobody can reproduce this. Rejecting. Please reopen if necessary.
