Description

While working on accounting and fundraising issues, we started using
private tickets and private notes. Private notes where even added to
private ticket to prevent publish stuff by mistake is unmarking a whole
ticket as private. Still, from #11343#change-56534 it seems like people
can’t see private notes even if the ticket is assigned to them, but they
can still see the ticket.

We should either:

  • Allow more people to see private notes.
  • Stop using private notes inside of private tickets.
  • Stop using private tickets all the way.
  • Anything other option?

What are you expecting from me here?

(I see Type of work = Sysadmin, but quite clearly we’re not at the point when I should simply implement some plan.)

I thought that “tweaking Redmine config” was “Sysadmin” but we’re discussing now so I’m changing to “Discuss”. I expect your opinion on the four options I proposed (feasibility and acceptability) as the person who started using private notes inside private ticket and the person who has superpower and knowledge on our Redmine.

If I had to take the decision alone and without your Redmine knowledge or superpower, I would go for “Stop using private notes inside of private tickets” as a start.

OK!

> * Allow more people to see private notes.

I think that members of tails@ should have the “Manager” status, so that they all can see private tickets and notes. The only drawback I see is that they’ll be able to see tickets that e.g. the accounting or sysadmin team have marked as private, but anyway we don’t have strict separation in the current state of things: anyone with commit rights (and thus “Manager” status) can see those tickets already, even if they’re not on the accounting or sysadmin team.

Shall I go ahead and do that?

> * Stop using private notes inside of private tickets.

This could work, but it’s hard to prevent mistakes so let’s not count on it.

> * Stop using private tickets all the way.

I think they’re useful and I am happy to use them, so: rather not.
