Right now we’re pointing to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest-beta/673020/addon-673020-latest.xpi. We should point to a stable version instead.

I think that’s done too, right?

Nope (see wiki/src/install/inc/steps/download.inline.html). Giorgio is waiting for the code for Feature #11109 before he does that in the same upload, IIRC.

Ÿeap, and I tested it (briefly). Now we’re only blocked by intrigeri’s review of Feature #10859 and then tchou’s review of Bug #11301.

I’ll do this today, so I’m assigning this ticket to me as there’s no more work to do here, and I’m the one who has to do something before we can close it as resolved.

IMO it’s the other way round (as Redmine correctly states): pointing to the stable version depends on having a stable version :)

Hi Giorgio! Is it expected that after installing the add-on from the beta channel, I don’t get upgraded to the stable version?

Yes, they’re called “channels” for this reason. If you install a dev/beta/rc version, you go in the beta channel and only get updated with subsequent versions of those kinds (which are “cutting edge”, possibly harmful and not reviewed by AMO staff).
Users who install a stable release are placed in a stable channel and only get stable updates, which never go live before passing a manual AMO editorial review.

OK, got it. Thanks for the explanation. I would have expected that system to upgrade to stable, if its version is greater than the newest beta. Anyway, that’s how it is.

So I’m reassigning to sajolida, because I guess we do need a way to have users of the beta upgrade to stable, somehow: I assume we won’t be uploading to both channels every time we do a release; and it would be nice to have most of our users move to the stable channel, so that we can use the beta channel for testing… our betas :)

Thankfully we had the “extension-version” field in the HTML to force a given version of DAVE. It wouldn’t work from my local copy of the website, but now that more people looked at the release, I felt confident to merge Bug #11301 myself. And so I can confirm that our trick of forcing the version number works to go from beta to stable. I had 0.2.7rc installed and it asked me to install 0.2.8 and did so before continuing.

Victory!
