Description

While designing the assistant we didn’t really prepare it to document Tails Installer packages in other Linux distros (yeah!). Now it’s available in Gentoo and we should add it to the assistant:

It’s now available in Gentoo proper:
https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/commit/0135da7291c4ad7df83d763db304416ce3d93ad1

for a user, that means unmasking it:

  1. echo “=app-misc/tails-installer-4.4.8 ~amd64” >> /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/tails-installer
    and emerging it:
  2. emerge -av =app-misc/tails-installer-4.4.8

I think we should:

  • Add a button for Gentoo (in the future probably “Gentoo, Fedora or Arch Linux”): all Linuxes with Tails Installer.
  • Copy and adapt the router from Debian.
  • Copy and adapt the overview from Debian.
  • Copy and adapt the steps from Debian.

I’m not sure how to name it since we already have /install/debian and /install/linux.

Maybe /install/linux could be renamed /install/others and use /install/linux for all Linuxes with Tails Installer.

What do you think?

If we reassign the /install/linux url we will have some backward compatibilty issue, because the current page is hard linked in some pages in the web.

I don’t have good alterntives:

- install/with_assistant, but that would break to router logic

- install/linux_with_assistant and install/other_linux
- install/gentoo, install/redhat…

Maybe the most consitant with our “OS oriented” router is the last one.

I don’t want to work on that myself anymore.

hey hybridwipe, could you tell us how to install this in Gentoo? So that it could be properly documented?
Imagine I’m new to Gentoo and you need to explain it to me :)

No news since 7 months. Rejecting this ticket. People who use Gentoo are most likely power users and can find out themselves how to install tails-installer on their system. (Or they will end up here after a websearch). Reopen this ticket if you intend to work on it anyway.

Thanks, u! I didn’t dare rejecting this earlier…
