Description

Given the non-deterministic boot systemd gives us, it may not improve the boot speed at all, or perhaps too little to warrant the extra work at release time.

I decided to check this while preparing the final 2.0 image. Indeed SquashFS ordering is still highly relevant, so let’s continue doing it.

Here’s the data I gathered:

KVM with DVD passthrough:

               No read-ahead   With read-ahead
boot -> TG:    03:03           1:53

TG -> desktop: 01:48           0:45

Shitty Acer laptop:

               No read-ahead   With read-ahead
boot -> TG:    02:45           1:50

TG -> desktop: 00:55           0:23
