I wrote something as a start. It would be a pain for me to write code to update the IDF. Do you think that the manual instructions from 5d821a8 would be enough as a start?

If you don’t think so, I’ll do my best to automate this.

Doing such things manually is error prone. especially at this time in the release process. I automated the IDF generation in commit commit:b51b09f, and it worked for me when preparing Tails 1.8.2 => closing this ticket + removing your branch.
