Tails mirror is broken or scary SSL message ------------------------------------------ Thanks for your report. We have disabled the mirror and notified the admin. It is quite possible that it is only a problem of a bad configuration on the mirror. Our mirrors are run by volunteer sysadmins around the world: https://tails.boum.org/contribute/how/mirror/ That is also why it is so important to always **verify** de ISO image that you have downloaded. If you have any other issues with the mirrors you can always contact: tails-mirrors@boum.org Unregular download speed ------------------------ Download speed depends on various factors, and most of them are independant from Tails e.g Tor nodes bandwidth, ISP etc. You could try from another location if possible. Difference between DVD-R / DVD+R etc. ------------------------------------- Concernig Tails, using a DVD-R or DVD+R is almost the same. Using a DVD+R would allow someone to burn more data is there's some free space, but that's all. Using such DVD doesn't allow someone to modify your Tails. But you'll have to burn a new Tails DVD for every release, which is every 6 weeks. Using a DVD-RW or DVD+RW allow to use only one DVD, and re-burn Tails on it every time a release is out. Blocked localhost request ------------------------- The firewall is the reason why it behaves like this. You can change it in /etc/ferm/ferm.conf but it's at your own risks. Device was not created using Tails USB installer ------------------------------------------------ As the error message says, the USB stick you installed Tails on and thus tried to create a persistent volume onto was not created using Tails Installer. In order to create a persistent volume, the only supported method is when Tails was installed using Tails Installer: https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/installation/ Any other method may end to unexpected results. Installing Tails on a hard drive -------------------------------- The Tails boot process tries hard, on purpose, not to use anything that's on the internal drives, because we don't want to trust it. So, implementing what you want requires to manually turn off some protection offered by Tails, and nobody has researched what the exact implications of the way you do it would be. Same for other Tails features, such as persistence, automatic upgrades, and Tails Installer. Browser confinement ------------------- We have confined the Tor Browser to allow it to only read certain directories. This can be bothering but we thought it made browsing safer. You can save files from Tor Browser to the Tor Browser folder that is located in the Home folder. The content of this folder will disappear once you shut down Tails. If you want to upload files with Tor Browser, copy them to that folder first. If you have activated the Personal Data persistence feature, then you can also use the Tor Browser folder that is located in the Persistent folder. In that case, the content of this folder is saved and remains available across separate working sessions. See here for more information: https://tails.boum.org/doc/anonymous_internet/Tor_Browser/#confinement
